An infra red camera uses infra red waves. An optical camera uses light waves.
In astronomy both cameras are used to explore galaxies and the space. The advantage of using an infrared camera is that the IR camera can see through dusts and gases. So astronomers can get a clear picture of those galaxies and space. But dusts can penetrate optical waves.
IR camera is used in finding people in a smoked place like fire situation.

Visible light, infra red, ultra vi olot ,X rays all are part of electromagnetic spectrum. Our eyes are sensitive to only visible light.
ReplyDeleteFor example you can see a broken bone in an X ray image but you can not see directly with your eye.
