  1. I'd go for the Nikon D5100 with an 18-55 VR lens. Other lenses and flashes etc you get for it will be compatible with later high end cameras you will buy if you're careful and read up on the range. And this camera takes perfectly good images and serves as an introduction to video, which will be increasingly important to photographers.

  2. 1) A "Professional" DSLR would start at $ 2,000 with a full-frame sensor.

    2) The DSLR that fits you best will fit your budget the best. For about $ 500 you can get the Nikon D3000 with the 18-55mm kit lens.

    3) What will you be shooting? That will depend on what lens you will end up buying.

  3. Honestly, if you have to asked, you aren't ready to go into business.

  4. You had better check with the course tutor if you actually need a DSLR. Many photography courses require that students have access to a film SLR.

You probably don't need a "professional" camera unless you want to spend thousands of dollars. There is no such thing as a professional beginners camera - what you are looking for is an entry level camera.

The Canon v Nikon dilema is not a real problem. Both companies make excellent cameras. Any of the entry level DSLRs would do if a DSLR is what you need for your class. And canon and nikon are not the only companies that make excellent cameras.

  5. Nikon and Canon are equally good.
Some photogs suggest that you should go to the photography store and try how these cameras feel in your hand. You can always learn menus, so don't bother about that. Just try how the camera fits into your hand.
Another thing that you might want to consider is if you have photographers friends, which brand do they have. You can change lens between your friends if you have the same brand. Sometimes it is expensive to buy some special lens just by yourself, you can do it together.
    Just some ideas.
Will you choose Nikon or Canon, either way you are doing a good choice.

Never heard of one of those so I can't help.
